We are lucky in North Baldwin County to have many thoughtful, committed citizens that work hard to make our little community a great place to live, work and play! For the second year in a row, The North Baldwin Chamber was proud to present the Community Project Award… created to recognize individuals in the community who volunteer their time to go above and beyond to implement a program, service, event, or project that has a lasting impact.

Local treasure, remarkable, heart of gold, creative and detail oriented are just some of the words and phrases used to describe the recipient of this year’s Community Project Award, Judy Pimperl.

Last year, Judy ran into a new member of the Bay Minette community that had not yet connected to anyone and thought about moving… and that comment set her on a mission. She created an entire community to help all those new and old to Bay Minette to connect and feel a part of something bigger. That is how the Facebook group “Bay Minette Welcomes You” came into play. In her own words, Judy Pimperl said “The purpose of the group is simple: To be a welcoming place where newcomers and all citizens of Bay Minette can come together in a virtual meeting place to welcome others, learn about your neighbors, and places of business around town.” Very quickly, she gained a following and as of this date has over 2,200 followers! The page is a great resource where you’re able to find information or discussion on anything from adoption to finding someone to resurface your driveway. She highlights local business and organizations, churches, real estate, happenings and events in our area, job hirings and so much more! Judy also started a few spin off Facebook groups like “What’s Cooking in Bay Minette” for members of the community to find their niche and others that share the same interests to connect with. Judy volunteers a great deal of time during the week monitoring the groups and reading through each comment carefully to ensure a positive experience for all members.

Along with the Facebook groups, Judy also formed a welcome committee and set up the Welcome Bag Program to provide information and resources to any new homeowners moving into the community. The committee offered ad space on the bags to cover the cost of the bags and periodically offers free promotion opportunities to local businesses and organizations to fill the bags with their information.

The North Baldwin Chamber was over the moon to present Judy Pimperl with this year’s Community Project Award for her love of the community, gift of networking and ability to bring people from many walks of life together in creative ways. There is a tremendous amount of time, dedication, and heart that she pours into the Bay Minette Welcomes You project and beyond! If you’d like to stay in the loop for all things Bay Minette and surrounding, be sure to send a request to join Bay Minette Welcomes You on Facebook asap!
